Hybrids & Electric Cars

October 15, 2012

I have always been the kind of guy that drives his cars into the ground.  Right now I have a 2002 Saab that I absolutely love.  I also have a 2006 Jeep Commander that I sorta love– and I’d love it more if I got better than 14 mpg.  The problem is both of these vehicles are over 150,000 miles and starting to fail, so it is getting expensive.

This weekend I spent some time looking at hybrids and electric vehicles.  I love the idea of an electric car, and the Nissan Leaf  looks great, but I can’t imagine being limited to only 70 or so miles per charge.  I also took a look at the Ford C Max.  Nice car, great mileage, but it kind of looks like a minivan and my wife is sworn off of minivans.  Go figure.  Of course, there is the Prius, but that whole Toyota braking episode a few months back made me a little skittish on Toyota.

Are any of you driving hybrids?  How did your research go?  Any advice?
